Late Game Strategy - Flow or Blow

One of my most memorable travels as head coach at Stetson University, was a flight from Orlando to San Francisco. My assistant, Jeff Rutter, and I took the long journey to talk with the playing order. Admittedly, the strategy for people sitting close to the level that we thought we were crazy. Armed with three-ring binders weighing about 12 pounds, we put our stuff and went to work.

Our theme was the end of the game strategy, has dozens of components. We cut our bestone topic after another. The problem of breaking an argument as the end of the game is against that, the possibilities are endless, which means that the monster is growing rather than declining. We did our best to make a quick and pleasant trip.

One of the topics covered in this scenario with one end of the game when a team takes time to port with limited possession. It could, after a shot or made or missed free throw and a turnover. We call this situation "or blow flow.In other words, if the team takes possession of the ball with limited time, call a timeout or let your team down to earth flow to get a shot yourself? Like all late game situations, this scenario must be designed and practiced.

If you blow up, or decide to call a time out, you can set your strategy for a final blow. You may need your players down or made them a quick recovery. Another advantage of stopping the game is that you can replaceto get your best offensive players on the floor. Stop playing, you will also successfully in-bound the ball, which could result in a turnover. If the opponent in a Full Court Press could take valuable time clock and limit your chances.

Some coaches like in a situation like this, the flow also has its advantages. The defense has not allowed the creation of its strategy as put the ball in flight are. With aggressive with the ball, the offensemostly under control. Many times an aggressive offensive attack will result in a foul. Unfortunately, many times the offense will be a bad shot or turn the ball, because the lack of organization.

This is one of many factors that you should finish the game against a team with your practice, to give them confidence. The players perform better when they know they are in these situations through repetition in practice scores. The decision is yours, Coach. Become a flow or blow?
